Matale Rebellion - Second Kandyan War

The Matale Rebellion of 1848 AD, also known as the Second Kandyan War, was an armed uprising against British colonial rule led by Puran Appu and Gongalegoda Banda. The rebellion was triggered by oppressive British economic policies, including new taxes and erosion of traditional rights. Though the British crushed the revolt and executed its leaders, the uprising forced the colonial government to introduce some administrative reforms and highlighted continuing Kandyan resistance.
