Early Life and Family

King Vijayabahu VII was born around 1445 CE. He was the son of King Veera Parakramabahu VIII, who was an adopted child of King Parakramabahu VI, who restored the Kingdom of Kotte. He grew up with his brothers Sri Rajasinghe, King Dharma Parakramabahu IX, and Raigam Bandara. He also had one sister who was married to Manamperi Arachchi.

Ascension to Kingship

After the death of his elder brother, King Dharma Parakramabahu IX, the people of the Kingdom of Kotte wanted his half-brother, Sakalakala Vallabha, to become king. At this time, Sakalakala Vallabha was serving as the sub-king (viceroy) of Udugampola.
